It is a lovely story the one that is narrated in this article and also brings to our attention the existence of this web site that helps desperate pets owners find their lost best friends by calling the neighbors with a prerecorded call where the description of the pet is given as well as the contact information of the master who is looking for them. It has been compared to the Amber Alert and has become one of the most efficient ways to locate lost pets.
A town called Los Gatos (Spanish for The Cats) has water bowls and paw prints on the sidewalks of its downtown to honor its most welcomed visitors, DOGS… and when I read the article for the first time my reaction was to pack up our belongings an move there… then of course, reason took place in my head and made me decide to just pass the news among our readers and stay quiet in our beloved Atlanta. But reading that an entire town loves and demonstrate its love for dogs 24/7 is heartwarming and deserving of being known everywhere… so here it is take a look…
In a recent post we highlighted the importance of Animal Rescue Associations, non-profit organizations and every society that dedicates time and effort to keep our beloved animals off the street and away from risks that they can’t avoid by themselves. In this article an Animal Lover is taking action towards rescuing dogs and cats and that makes her a Hero; the kind that we all need to see more and more everywhere. Our personal thanks go to her.
I got so scared when I run into this article that my eyes could not believe what I was reading… it is Thursday night after all… it is raining really heavily in Atlanta… it has been a long week… we all deserve a funny moment to laugh out the stress… Here you go…
Homeless dogs have found the best of allies in the Animal Rescue League of Boston which with a $ 3 million contribution from the Stanton Foundation is establishing what it will be the first facility in the nation dedicated to taking in homeless dogs, caring for them and preparing them for the adoption. The facility is expected to open this fall. And unlike the regular pond the League will screen the dogs for behavioral problems and try to develop solutions for those problems. More information here
On yet another note about our heroes, here I found this article where dogs are trained to rescue people that are buried in snow after an avalanche has occurred. As the story tells us there is no better match than our beloved dogs paired up with great human beings who volunteer several hours a week to keep these rescue animal in top physical condition and ready to go wherever they might be needed. In the case of Cascade, a 2 years old Golden Retriever, he has been putting his skills to good use every since he was four weeks old and is a fourth generation avalanche dog. His handler Chris Sutton trains him at least once a week in areas where the natural disasters may occur and sometimes it takes only 30 seconds for the dog to find the victims and considering the extreme weather conditions, 30 seconds becomes a matter of life or death so that is why we should be eternally thankful to not only the rescue dogs but also to their handlers who give their time and efforts to keep them in top conditions to come to the rescue at any time.
That dos are our heroes has been commented in this blog several times and I think that still isn’t enough so I’m going to keep posting this kind of news whenever I run into them because they just amaze me and they deserve to be talked about, to be known by as many of us as possible so the human kind will never forget who truly are our best of friends.
Football players and dogs don’t seem to mix well. The New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce has been accused of neglecting his dogs during the previous days of the Super Bowl. The Middlesex County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said the player’s two Pitt Bulls escaped a fenced yard on Jan. 30. Pierce was issued the summons because one of the dogs was found to be underweight and suffering from a respiratory illness. More on this case here
Today at the Global Pet Expo 2008, Zoombak LLC introduced its Advanced GPS Locator designed to provide dog owners with a convenient, easy-to-use, real-time solution to locate and recover their missing pets and that my friends is very useful nowadays in this crazy, speed-of-sound world that we live in. The most amazing feature of this device is the fact that once attached to the dog’s collar the owner will be able to locate the pet at any time. In the case that the dog cross the virtual boundaries an alert will be sent to the owner via email and/or text message making it very simple to find the wondering pet. The security zones or virtual boundaries will be pre-determined by the owner whether you are walking the dog off his leash or just letting him play in your backyard. Read more here
