That is a question that you should ask yourself before even considering breeding any kind of dog. Breeding takes a lot of patience, effort, and money and you should be ready to commit to it full time. First of all whoever is thinking of becoming a dog breeder needs to look around their own town and see how many Animal Rescue Societies there are and all of them are packed with dogs and cats that really need a loving home and that might take your idea off of your head. There are several facts that have to be considered and can not be ignored but if you are sure that breeding is right for you there is nothing anybody can do to keep you from doing it, so make sure you read this article to have a more accurate idea of what is needed to become a good breeder.
Back in the day when we started thinking about getting a dog and we commented among our friends that we wanted a Chihuahua, the first input we always got from them was that Chihuahuas would bark and bark non stop… as you all know by now we went ahead and got Dali regardless. We haven’t had any kind of inconvenient with our little one; actually sometimes we make him bark just for the sake of it or not to forget he is a dog…
Anyways, we have met dogs that bark and bark and bark all day long no matter what. I have been reading this article that suggests as a solution for that problem an operation to cut the dog’s vocal cords… WHAT?!?!?! I was in shock when a read that the author of this piece even thought of that as a solution, that is cruelty and I think it goes hand to hand with the electric collar some people use to have their dogs not barking. The collar would give an electric jolt every time the dog barks so it make it stop but it will also make your “loved one” fearful and unbalanced. Another way to stop the yap yap is the citronella collar that sprays the smell as soon as the dog begins to bark.
Personally I think that the best way to find a solution is to determine the cause of the constant barking, dogs won’t bark just because; there has to be a reason and if you take the time and dedication to find out the cause and treat it everybody will be happy no cruelty involved…
We stumbled upon this very informative list of things everyone should keep in mind at the moment of getting and keeping a dog, which is not cheap at all but it isn’t impossible to afford either… follow this link for more info.
Some say that a four letter word is the best and more practical way to name your dog. In our case Dali was our first choice, in honor of Spanish Artist Eugenio Salvador Dali, whom we admire. Some might say that naming a dog after an artist is disrespectful rather than honorable, but the way we see it is like honoring the great artist every time we say our pet’s name or when strangers ask us his name, the conversation would lead to explain who the real Dali was and so on. There is a bit of a language barrier in our case, since we pronounce Dali the “Spanish way” and most people don’t get at first, but once we started the information exchange everything comes to a clearance and we end up with mostly a fun experience of getting to know very interesting people. Naming a pet is very fun and it is really important that the name reflects the personality of your dog and your originality. So go ahead and choose a name for your pet… Here is a website that lists the 20 most popular dog names…
We have created like a doggie family among our group of friends. We have our own Dali, and then is Gigi’s and Jason’s Miel, and also Mary’s Bella… Now we want to welcome Galo to our puppy family. He resides in Argentina with Miryam since 12/24/07 and is as cute as you can imagine. Galo is short for Garcia Lorca in honor of the great Spaniard artist Federico Garcia Lorca.
Galo is a West Highland White Terrier born on 11/11/07 and who has won everybody’s love by now.
We’ve had Dali for about six months now and so far the only thing we can’t stand is him nipping on anything all the time… yes! all-the-ti-me. Call it the carpet, his blanket, his bed, his toys, my hands, his other dad’s hands, the couch… and so on… After watching and episode on T.V. of “The Dog Whisperer” where this guy teaches how to make your puppy bite on your fist so he’ll find himself biting into something not so pleasant we starting following this pattern and it worked; Dali has slowed down on this bad habit… Today I run into this webpage that offers very useful training tips to manage and reduce these habits… Check them out, they are really good!
